SEARCHING STRATEGICALLY PART 2

FINDING A COMMUNITY

When searching for a home and selecting a neighborhood, it’s important to dot your i’s and cross your t’s! If you’re looking at an unfamiliar neighborhood, it may be in your best interest to take a drive through the neighborhood at different times of day (morning, rush hour, night.)

Here’s a few thing to consider when selecting a neighborhood:

    • Average Home Value in Neighborhood

    • Year-over-Year(s) Home Value Appreciation

    • School Districts

    • Proximity to Work

    • Access to Highways

    • Proximity to Parks/Walking Paths/Dog Parks

    • Safety

    • Dining/Nightlife

    • Relocating? Ask a friend, family member, co-worker, or your realtor for Neighborhood Recommendations

Once it’s time to start going on showings, sit down with all decision makers and create a must haves vs. wants list. What do you absolutely have to have in a new home? Talk with each decision maker about what’s important to them, and what they may be willing to sacrifice.

When you’re in the home on showings, take your time and take pictures. You can always come back a second time too! Try to visualize your furniture in the home, and if necessary take measurements. Also, make sure you love the lot and location because you can’t change these!

IS IT THE ONE?

If you’re looking at other houses but still thinking about this house, it may be the one. Also, if your telling all of your family and friends about it, or obsessively looking at the photos again and again online, it may be the one. Once you’ve made the decision, go back and review your must haves vs. wants list one more time to make sure it truly is “the one.”
